Background

The NIOSH Mine Safety and Health Technology Innovations Award recognizes mines and companies making extraordinary efforts to improve worker safety and health. We judge entries on how organizations applied technology or improved processes in innovative ways, beyond mandatory requirements.

Technology changes or new procedures should show an effort to continuously improve to solve problems, not a one-time "fix." Mines and companies that qualify are invited to self-apply.

The award program is on hold pending NIOSH reorganization

Award nominations are not being processed during 2025 due to ongoing NIOSH reorganization and staffing changes. If the award program resumes, an updated announcement will appear on this site.
