Overview

The National Center for Health Statistics Data Linkage Program links National Hospital Care Survey (NHCS) data with data from other agencies. NHCS restricted-use data is linked to administrative data from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Linked records include up to three years of administrative housing data from HUD's largest housing assistance programs, such as—

  • Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program
  • Public housing (PH)
  • Privately owned, subsidized multifamily housing (MF)

Linked data support research studies, including those examining the complex relationship between housing and health.

Restricted-use

Restricted-use linked 2014 NHCS–2013/2015 HUD and 2016 NHCS–2015/2017 HUD data can be accessed only through the National Center for Health Statistics Research Data Center (RDC) network for approved research projects.
